Germany: Year 2071 Nature Theater of Oklahoma

with NATURE THEATER OF OKLAHOMA

Germany: Year 2071 is a new epic retro-sci-fi film by Nature Theater of Oklahoma produced last year by Academy of Arts of the World, Berliner Festspiele/Foreign Affairs and Impulse Theater Festival 2016. It tells the story of a country on the brink of collapse, where revolutions come and go like sunstorms, and aliens from outer space are welcomed and then quickly turned to sausage. Children are raised in Greek colonies until they are ready to enter the workforce, while emotions have been replaced by emojis. Germany: Year 2071 paints the picture of a new, old, utopian-dystopian, nostalgic-terrible city clearly reminiscent of postwar West Germany. The film was shot 2016 in Berlin and against the backdrop of Cologne’s modernist architecture with an amateurs-only cast. A year later, Nature Theater of Oklahoma returns to Cologne for the world premiere of Germany: Year 2071 in the Grand Auditorium of the WDR Radio Hall, one of the film’s iconic locations.
