In Between Spaces Sonic Agency

A program by THOMAS GLÄSSER, BRANDON LABELLE, THERESE SCHULEIT, FRANZISKA WINDISCH et al

Echo as orientation. Noise as information. Acoustic as politics.

The four-day festival In Between Spaces: Sonic Agency is dedicated to the interplay between sound, public space and counter-cultural practices. The festival center is a venue and jumping-off point for a program of concerts, discussions and sonic lectures as well as host to the Radio Room.

Various tours in urban space leave traces in the neighborhood, lead to installations, lectures or performative interventions, explore open spaces and sound out in-between spaces. Staged in public and private spaces, In Between Spaces: Sonic Agency searches for points of friction with the city. From multilayered theoretical and artistic perspectives questions of foreignness and proximity, solidarity and dissonance, vibration and materiality, meaning and noise, permeability and resistance will be addressed. In Between Spaces: Sonic Agency examines the invisible disruptive and affective qualities of sound: Can sound be political?

Far from producing a homogenous cultural space, the program series In Between Spaces generates new aesthetic hybrids and cultural spaces of possibility between pop and avant-garde, tradition and experiment.

A cooperation of ZAM Zentrum für aktuelle Musik e.V. As part of the project In Between Spaces with the Akademie der Künste der Welt and Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln (KHM).
