Black Queer Home.

Led by Yvan Hervé Butera (he/they), this research and empowerment workshop explores sources of strength, joy, and care through methods of theater.

The workshop is exclusively for youth and young adults who identify as Black and within the queer spectrum. Together, participants will explore what a Black queer home and community participation is and can be in the current context on an individual and collective level through storytelling and archival practices.

The workshop is part of the research and creation process of a play in cooperation with baraka (Rubicon), that ADKDW artist-in-residence Yvan Hervé Butera will perform as a result of his residency in November 2023.

Yvan Hervé Butera, BuTeRa (he/they), born in Rwanda, founded the Kaze Film Festival, the first queer film festival in his home country. In 2022, BuTeRa also co-organized the first Kigali Pride celebration. As part of the Participatory Residency Program, BuTeRa will work with participatory art forms and develop an interactive program for the local scenes and communities in Cologne. A theater piece will address in particular LGBTQIA+ BIPOC individuals and groups who are excluded from majority-society discourses, for example, because of their origin, and sexual orientation. The goal of the program is to strengthen the social participation of LGBTQIA+ BIPOC groups and to support the actors in expressing the reality of their lives through artistic means.

Latoja Seitter is an activist, barista, psychologist and lots more. Their activism centers queer and bipoc perspectives. Latoja co-organizes the dyke*nights in Witten together with people from the café they work. The dyke*nights aim to be a braver/saver space, which focuses on queer-lesbian and trans identities.
