Moving on from Islam and the West Pankaj Mishra

mit PANKAJ MISHRA

What will become of the world as we know it? Events in the Middle East and North Africa – from the invasion of Iraq to the Arab Spring and the rise of ISIS – signify the destruction of a political and cultural order, while Western Europe and America struggle with their own crisis of legitimacy caused by military, political, and economic excesses. A new world order, or disorder, looms on the horizon. How relevant or useful is the opposition of “Islam” and the “West” in understanding these earthshaking events? Preeminent novelist as well as Guardian and New York Times columnist Pankaj Mishra (London/Mashobra) will explore the contemporary geopolitical and ideological landscape, outlining some necessary revisions of ideas and concepts.
