Flamingods is a five-piece multi-instrumental band that exists online as much as in person, somewhere between the UK and the Persian Gulf. Exploring and experimenting with imagery, music and concepts of far-flung cultures using a huge collection of instruments, Flamingods fuse together Asian polyphonic textures, African rhythms and pop sensibilities. Members Charles Prest, Sam Rowe, Craig Doporto and Kamal Rasool grew up in the Kingdom of Bahrain and made music together, eventually joining forces with Karthik Poduval from Dubai, whom they met at a party in the UK. The band was founded properly in 2010 at an epic session in a chalet lasting eight hours. Their first studio effort, Sun, appeared in 2012 to favorable reviews, but in 2014, two of the band’s members moved back to the Gulf. Instead of splitting up, they continued to work together online, recording their second release, Hyperborea. Their third release, Majesty (2016), is arranged with a conceptual narrative, following its protagonist Yuka on his journey of enlightenment in an explosion of instruments from all over the world.
