Bolivian German writer, curator and philosopher Max Jorge Hinderer Cruz will be the new artistic director of the Akademie der Künste der Welt (ADKDW). He will begin his new role, succeeding our current artistic director Madhusree Dutta, on January 1, 2022, and will move from La Paz, Bolivia, to Cologne for this purpose. Hinderer Cruz was an ADKDW fellow in 2016 and has been an active ADKDW member since 2018. He was unanimously elected as the next artistic director by the members and confirmed by the ADKDW supervisory board; his contract will initially run until end of 2024.
Previously, Hinderer Cruz directed the National Museum of Art (Museo Nacional de Arte, MNA) in La Paz, Bolivia, where he founded the PED – Program for Decolonial Studies in Art. His texts and cultural criticism have been published in Spanish, German, English, Portuguese and French, in various formats in books, catalogues, magazines and international newspapers in Europe, Africa, the USA and Latin America. Hinderer Cruz regularly publishes essays in the Bolivian newspaper La Razón.
