Monika Kerkmann will take over the position of Managing Director of the Academy of the Arts of the World (ADKDW) in Cologne on January 1, 2024.
In collaboration with international thinkers and creatives, the ADKDW initiates exhibitions, events, publications and research projects and thus constitutes a laboratory for experimental knowledge production and artistic research in Cologne. The Supervisory Board of the ADKDW unanimously proposed Monika Kerkmann as the new Managing Director to the Finance Committee of the City of Cologne and the ADKDW shareholders' meeting. With her many years of experience in the field of cultural management, including as director of the Julia Stoschek Collection and as project manager at the LAS Art Foundation, Monika Kerkmann will be in charge of ADKDW's business operations over the next few years. "I am delighted that we have been able to recruit Monika Kerkmann to manage the Academy. Her network in the Rhineland cultural landscape and her experience in the cultural sector will have a fruitful effect on the even closer networking of the academy with the city and its stakeholders," said Maria Helmis-Arend, Chairwoman of the ADKDW Supervisory Board.
Monika Kerkmann replaces Jörg Streichert who, after 2.5 years as Managing Director of the ADKDW, will in future be entrusted with the administrative management of KUNST-WERKE BERLIN e.V. (KW Institute for Contemporary Art). KW is dedicated to the production and presentation of contemporary art and is, among other things, the organizer of the Berlin Biennale.
