Dear friends and supporters of the Academy,

in Europe, as in the USA, fences are being built and walls planned. Nations are dividing themselves from each other, displaying resentment towards humans that look different or that come from other parts of the world. In the current political climate, the Academy of the Arts of the World unites people in the field of art and culture from all around the world. This includes our series of events, the PLURIVERSALE, yet also extends to the activity and participation of our Fellows that have joined us from a multitude of countries. Institutions such as the Academy of the Arts of the World, that connect nations and people rather than separating them, are more important than ever.

We are happy that throughout this year we could enrich the cultural scene of Cologne with artists from all continents. This coming year will commence with a highly interesting programme: the PLURIVERSALE VI inaugurates on the 18th-19th of April with international prominence at the event The Extreme Centre – a symposium about the future of politics in populist times. The confirmed participants so far are the British-Pakistani historian and author Tariq Ali, the US sociologist Saskia Sassen, the Hungarian philosopher Ágnes Heller and the Croatian philosopher and activist Srećko Horvat. The setting of the opening will be the centrally located Volksbühne am Rudolfplatz.

We would like to thank our supporters for all the help! Our Thank Yous also extend to our partners and friends for the loyalty and trust that they have maintained throughout the years in the Academy. We wish you a Happy New Year and a very exciting and artistically diverse 2017!
