After twelve years of interdisciplinary and transnational cultural work, the Akademie der Künste der Welt (ADKDW) will cease operations on June 30, 2025. This decision was necessitated by the City of Cologne's decision to completely cut institutional funding for the ADKDW as part of its 2025/26 household budget.
The ADKDW looks back on over a decade of artistic, curatorial, and discursive practice—with the aim of making marginalized perspectives visible, reflecting on global interconnections, and enabling new forms of exchange.
Despite the cessation of operations, the ADKDW's programmatic profile will continue to exist: a new association has been founded by the circle of former contributors, which will operate under the name ACADEMY OF THE ARTS OF THE WORLD. The aim is to continue and further develop the international network, the programmatic orientation, and the transdisciplinary practice under new organizational conditions.
The association was founded on the initiative of Monika Kerkmann, Jörg Kobel, and Jan Kryszons and is currently awaiting registration. Further information on the association's work and opportunities for participation will follow shortly via the usual ADKDW communication channels, which the association will take over with immediate effect.
